Schools to Housing Program

The Schools to Housing Program (available in both English and Spanish) is a collaborative initiative designed to improve housing security for families of PreK–12 students in the Eden Prairie and Hopkins School Districts who are at imminent risk of homelessness. By partnering with school staff, Hennepin County, and our case managers, Move Forward ensures families can find—and stay in—safe, stable, and affordable housing without disrupting their children’s education.

Keeping Eden Prairie & Hopkins Families Safely Housed

Teachers, counselors, and school staff identify students and families facing housing instability or imminent homelessness. Early identification helps prevent the trauma and academic disruption often associated with youth homelessness.

School-Based Identification

step one

By guiding each family through the housing process, we prevent homelessness, reduce crisis-driven school absences, and foster a sense of security for both parents and children.

How Schools to Housing Works

Once a family is identified, Hennepin County assesses eligibility and provides direct financial assistance—rent subsidies, utility support, or move-in costs—to prevent eviction and secure stable housing.

Prevents Trauma

tackling challenges head on:

Homelessness can derail a child’s education, mental health, and overall well-being. For immigrant and refugee families, the risk is even higher due to language barriers, limited financial resources, and unfamiliarity with local systems.
